Our redesign of the public spaces at the Holiday Inn Select's Richardson facility won 2002's "best of the best" renovation honors from the 3,000-plus hotel chain's Property Improvement Department.
Said
manager
Bruce Hitson : "Before, it was a typical Holiday Inn restaurant;
nothing to get excited about but a place to get a decent meal
-- harmless, but unmemorable. Since
the redesign, on the guest comment cards we consistently see
phrases like 'What a beautiful restaurant, love the atmosphere,'
and so on. He did an excellent job."

At left, a "before" photo of the bar/club area. It was a space that said, "Get out the dominoes, lonesome travelers, because a very miniscule amount of fun is in the air!" |
At right, the bar area after RKD's redesign. Note that we used a somewhat similar color scheme... ...but to resoundingly different effect: An upscale yet comfortably homey atmosphere. |

At
left, the dining area prior to our update. But an area that was previously cramped, close and claustrophobic became, after our redesign, open, airy and welcoming -- and encourages patrons to enjoy the dining experience (below). |
The redesign and refurbishing also had an impact on the hotel's bottom line: Holiday Inn/Select owner Don Drieski was quick to credit the redesign with "turning around" the hotel's restaurant, now operating as the Austin Grill. Drieski said, thanks to the refurbishing, "Our restaurant numbers are up 25 percent in a market that is down 40 percent due to the slowdown in the Telecom Corridor." |

At left, the sight that awaited hotel patrons upon entering the lobby area: A couch of indeterminate parentage that said, "Don't sit on me," and added, "but there's nowhere else to sit." |
Our redesign of the entry area (and the rest of the public sections of the hotel) draw visitors inward towards a friendly, spacious environment that says there's plenty for guests to explore... |
